I like Bishop Samuel Aquila. If I were playing Fantasy Bishball, he would have been one of my top picks. “Google” his name, and you will find a number of outstanding writings. CNA recently had a great article in which the bishop discusses the possibility that there will be those who will try to silence the Catholic Church in the United States. Personally, I have thought this for a long time, and looking at the way things are in the rest of the world, one might think that this will be sooner than later.
“We could see the possibility of it within the United States where we are no longer free to preach the truth from the pulpit or to present Catholic teaching,” Bishop Samuel J. Aquila of Fargo, North Dakota, told CNA on an Oct. 7 visit to Rome.
“It will then become important for us to take a very strong stand, as we have done with human life and the unborn child, to continue to speak the truth and to speak it clearly and with charity.”
As others in the blogosphere have already said, the main issue for persecution might not be the Church’s stance against abortion or contraception (although they will be part of it), but rather her stance against same-sex “marriages”.
You can (and should) read the entire article HERE.
Our job: know the Church’s teaching. Pray that God will not only help us to grow in our understanding, but that He will also give us the courage to speak boldly whenever and wherever it will be necessary.
May God bless Bishop Aquila
